We design, prototype, build, and install industrial robotic systems that support small to medium-sized manufacturers across the U.S. Our proprietary RGS software library enables advanced manipulation and control, continually pushing the boundaries of automation.

As a startup experiencing rapid growth, we have doubled revenue year over year while developing the foundation of our core products and technologies. Every new hire at Rigorous plays a critical role in shaping our future, and we are actively expanding into remote diagnostics, maintenance, and service programs to make cutting-edge robotics accessible to all manufacturers.

We are looking for high-performing engineers who thrive in a fast-paced, evolving technical environment and are committed to solving complex problems that improve people’s lives. In this role, you will contribute to both R&D efforts and production-ready systems, helping us build scalable, industry-leading automation solutions. If you are passionate about innovation, possess strong software engineering expertise, and want to be a foundational member of a growing team, we encourage you to apply.

Job Description

As an Industrial Electrical Engineer at Rigorous, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining electrical systems for industrial automation and robotic systems.

You must have commercial/industrial electrical experience as well as have an electrical engineering education. This combination of expertise is vital to ensure the efficient and effective operation of electrical systems, meeting project objectives, and contributing to overall product excellence.

You will collaborate with our team on all projects from design through to production. You will ensure the electrical integrity of our robotic systems throughout the design and construction process.

You will work primarily at the Rigorous facility with occasional travel required for testing, installations, and service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own Rigorous’ electrical-safety and compliance program—interpret NEC (NFPA 70), UL/CSA (e.g., UL 508A, UL 1741) and NFPA 79, create checklists, coordinate third-party testing, and drive every product to final listing.
  • Lead the electrical architecture, component selection, and control-cabinet build for industrial automation and robotic systems shipping to North America.
  • Design, implement, and maintain industrial electrical systems and components, producing clear schematics, bills of materials, and design records that meet all regulatory requirements.
  • Build and install UL/CSA-compliant control panels and field wiring per design specifications and industry standards.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with UL/CSA inspectors, notified bodies, and customer auditors, defending designs and documentation.
  • Direct manufacturing support, testing, and change-control activities to ensure each build meets specification, quality, and customer requirements.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical malfunctions through root-cause analysis, implementing corrective actions or system upgrades.
  • Drive continuous improvement in safety, reliability, sustainability, productivity, and cost through data-driven evaluations of system performance.
  • Develop and maintain Rigorous’ internal design, production, testing, and maintenance standards and procedures.
  • Provide senior-level commissioning and on-site support, training clients, technicians, and junior engineers while fostering a culture of safety and technical excellence.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years in Industrial Electrical role or control-panel fabrication.
  • Licensed Journeyman/Master Electrician or BS/MS in Electrical Engineering.
  • Deep, hands-on expertise in the National Electrical Code (NEC) and UL/CSA standards (e.g., UL 508A/1741), with working familiarity with NFPA 79, IEC/EN standards, and CE-mark requirements for industrial control systems.
  • Experience with industrial robotics and/or automation is a plus but not required.
  • In-depth knowledge of industrial electrical systems and assembly practices.
  • Proficiency in reading and developing electrical schematics and drawings.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and codes related to electrical systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and analytically.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities, with strong technical writing skills.
