Senior Robotics Engineer

Rigorous Technology is a robotics company with a mission to automate non-creative tasks. We primarily support industrial manufacturers with a focus on small to medium size companies in the Northeast. We also work on agricultural and marine projects that have a positive environmental impact. We prototype, design, build, and install robots that help humans. Rigorous Technology develops manipulation and control software, continually building upon our RGS software library.

Rigorous is a startup, this role will be a leader coming in on the ground floor. We have two and a half years of consistent growth, doubling revenue each year and developing the foundation of our library of technology. As we grow, we are moving towards remote diagnostics, maintenance, and service programs, making cutting-edge technology accessible to regional manufacturers. Job Description

The Senior Robotics Engineer will be a critical member of the growing, multidisciplinary engineering team at Rigorous and will focus on the development of control software and hardware for industrial robotics.

This position primarily focuses on new technology development, but will also work on production-ready products. They will be involved in all phases of algorithm, software, interface, and technology development including design, implementation, testing, and deployment.

The Senior Robotics Engineer will design and prototype new technologies using simulation frameworks and develop, implement, and evaluate those technologies in robots using C++/Python and the RGS library. The Robotics Engineer will deeply understand and appreciate how operators use robotics to accomplish tasks and appreciate the role our software and technology plays in allowing operators to be safer, better, and faster.

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, develop, test, and integrate control software systems for a variety of robotic systems.

  • Develop and maintain Rigorous systems.

  • Develop and implement prototype and production-ready solutions.

  • Innovate to discover solutions that enhance the relationship between industrial robotics and the operators that use them.

  • Support clients and operators as they utilize Rigorous’ technology.

  • Create clear, reliable, and reusable code.

  • Create and maintain clear documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • To thrive in this role, you must have strong analytical skills and a tenacity for hardware experimentation.

  • Master’s degree in Math, Physics, Computer Science, or similar field.

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience with a Master’s degree, or 5-10 years with a Bachelor’s degree. Technical degrees also considered with relevant experience.

  • Science fundamentals in algorithm design, problem-solving, and complexity analysis.

  • Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and test in a fast-paced environment

  • Experience with hardware interfaces, edge processing, and distributed computing.

  • Proficiency with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or Python including object-oriented design.

  • Knowledge of professional engineering practices & best practices for the full life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source management, agile, processes, testing, and operations.

  • Working knowledge of industrial robot systems, including their sensors, protocols, construction, and use.

  • Strong working knowledge of the Linux operating system, embedded systems, and embedded Linux.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
